About Akrotiri, Tempus
Tempus rests quietly on the hillsides above Parikia, where the landscape of dry grasses, olive trees and low stone walls opens gradually toward wide views of the Aegean. Designed by Aristides Dallas, the residence draws deeply from the architectural language of the Cyclades while introducing a more sculptural and earthy interpretation through its terracotta-toned surfaces, geometric volumes and carefully framed courtyards. The result is a home that feels both ancient and contemporary, shaped as much by light and shadow as by architecture itself.
Approached through a sequence of open-air pathways and enclosed patios, the residence reveals itself slowly. Curved walls, shaded thresholds and planted courtyards create moments of privacy before the sea appears again beyond the house. The muted terracotta finish changes character throughout the day, shifting from pale clay in the morning light to deep burnt tones at sunset, echoing the colours of the surrounding landscape.
Arranged entirely on one level, the house has been designed for fluid movement between interior and exterior spaces. At its centre sits a sheltered courtyard and reflecting pool that anchors the residence and draws natural light into every room. Covered walkways and pergolas create shade during the warmer hours, while open passages allow air to move naturally through the property. The architecture responds carefully to the Cycladic climate, balancing exposure and protection with quiet precision.
Inside, the interiors continue the restrained material palette of textured plaster, timber beams, natural stone and soft woven finishes. Large openings frame both the courtyards and the distant sea, allowing the landscape to remain constantly present within the living spaces. The main salon and dining area open directly onto the terraces and pool, creating a continuous connection between indoor living and the horizon beyond. Throughout the house, the atmosphere feels calm and tactile rather than decorative, with carefully filtered light softening the strong geometry of the architecture.
The kitchen is integrated discreetly within the main living spaces, defined by warm timber cabinetry and monolithic surfaces that mirror the earthy tones of the exterior. Nearby, the wine cellar introduces a darker, more intimate atmosphere within the home — a quiet room of textured wood, stone flooring and carefully illuminated shelving designed for long evenings and slower rhythms.
The six bedrooms are positioned to maximise privacy, several opening onto their own enclosed courtyards or terraces. The primary suite faces west toward the sea and sunset, with a private jacuzzi positioned to capture the changing evening light over Parikia below. A separate guest house, complete with its own plunge pool and outdoor sitting areas, allows visitors an independent sense of retreat while remaining visually connected to the main residence.
Outside, the terraces unfold as a series of interconnected outdoor rooms rather than one singular entertaining space. The main pool sits partially enclosed within the architecture, protected from the wind and reflecting the warm tones of the surrounding walls throughout the day. Shaded dining areas, built-in seating and quiet courtyards create smaller moments of retreat across the property, while the open western edges frame uninterrupted sea views toward the horizon.
As evening approaches, the light across the plaster walls becomes softer and more saturated, while the distant lights of Parikia begin to appear below the hillside. The stillness of the courtyards, the warmth retained within the stone surfaces and the changing colour of the sky give the house a quiet rhythm that feels deeply connected to the landscape of Paros itself.
