Andromeda occupies a distinguished position within Vaporia, the historic quarter of Ermoupolis where Syros’ 19th-century shipowners once built their grand residences above the Aegean. Behind its pale neoclassical façade, the mansion unfolds as a carefully restored composition of marble, colour and light, combining the architectural formality of the island’s mercantile past with a more intimate Art Deco sensibility. From the upper terraces, the sea stretches eastward towards Tinos and Mykonos, while below, the stone shoreline and pastel façades of Ermoupolis descend toward the harbour.

Extending across approximately 770 sqm of interior space, the residence has been restored with notable attention to original proportions and decorative detail. High ceilings, full-height arched openings and herringbone timber floors preserve the scale and rhythm of the original mansion, while bold yet controlled colour palettes introduce a more contemporary layer to the interiors. Emerald green salons, powder-blue bedrooms, amber accents and soft rose tones sit alongside restored plasterwork, marble surfaces and ornate ceiling mouldings, creating rooms that feel theatrical without becoming excessive.

Arrival takes place through a sequence of formal interior spaces centred around a sculptural white marble staircase framed by Doric columns. Light filters through tall glazed doors and internal courtyards, softening the grandeur of the architecture and allowing planted terraces and palms to become part of the interior atmosphere. Throughout the mansion, the relationship between indoor and outdoor space feels unusually fluid for a historic urban residence.

The ten bedrooms are distributed across several levels, many with restored decorative ceilings, marble bathrooms and access to private verandas or plunge pools. Rather than repeating a single design language, each suite carries its own character through colour, artwork and material variation, while maintaining continuity through the building’s original architectural framework. Several bathrooms are designed almost as independent salons, combining freestanding bathtubs, patterned marble and large arched openings that allow natural light to move deeply into the interiors.

Outdoor spaces unfold gradually through internal courtyards, shaded terraces and rooftop levels. Stone walls, mature planting and patterned tiled details create smaller moments of privacy within the property, while the rooftop terrace opens fully towards the sea and the skyline of Ermoupolis. Positioned above the Vaporia waterfront, the rooftop pool sits quietly within the architecture rather than dominating it, framed by pale stone surfaces and open Aegean views. In the evening, the changing colours of the harbour and surrounding hills reflect softly against the pastel façades of the district.

Vaporia itself remains one of the most architecturally important neighbourhoods in the Cyclades, known for its neoclassical mansions, narrow stepped streets and direct relationship with the sea. From the residence, Miaouli Square, the Apollo Theatre and the historic port are all within walking distance, while beaches and smaller villages around the island remain easily accessible by car. The setting combines the cultural depth of an inhabited town with the atmosphere of a traditional island capital that continues to function year-round.
